Work Experience

March 2002 – Present
Developed my own stock trading and management software (called ShareRT) that I offer for free to every trader (free downloadable). The software is developed in Java (using JBuilder). ShareRT gets its quotes from the Internet. It offers complete management of a stock-portfolio and ditto wish list and offers functionality to make and save money. It provides lots of (live) graphs (helps with doing technical analysis) and options that enables traders to make profit/loss calculations before they buy (or eventually before they do not buy).

You might wonder “where does this guy live from”? Well, I am currently earning my income as a day trader (short trades, fast in and out). Lots of people hate the markets right now, but as long as they move up and down I love them (the money is in the movement, not in the price). I also occasionally give ICT related advice - management wise - to smaller companies.

March 2001 – Febuary 2002 CoCoCom Amsterdam
CTO (Chief Technology Officer)
Managed a team of 15 people. During this period I also developed a Content Management System – named Cleopatra – with the help of external developers. This system can manage versioned content, can (un)deploy to web servers using FTP and contains options to commercialize content. The system is based on a one-to-one approach, learns from its users, adjusts its presentation layer to them and is available in 10 (Western) languages. The system – about 200 Java components – is tested by Iquip (they tested functionality, code and performance) and was judged very positively after a three-month test period. The system is based on SilverStream’s ePortal in combination with SqlServer.
At this company I worked on a one-year contract. Unfortunately it was taken down in bankruptcy by the – larger – mother company.

7/1998 - 2/2001 Getronics Veenendaal
Director GetOn.Getronics.Com
Worked at GetOn.Getronics.Com (Veenendaal) as Director of the ‘online business’-unit of Getronics, directly reporting to the (former) CEO, Mr. Van Luijk. I was also responsible for the architecture, the realization, deployment and acceptance of this state-of-the-art web site (portal) on both the technological and marketing area (and of course managerial). This portal was entirely based on one-to-one marketing. I spent a large part of my time on the acceptance of the portal within Getronics (the company was basically a cluster of rather hostile business units with seats almost everywhere in the world). The portal was primarily focussed on the B2B channel and its goal was to commercialize the more than 15,000 products and services electronically. It also had an affiliate program making it possible to sell products B2C in order to improve product margin by gaining higher volumes. The portal was based on BroadVision (One-To-One Enterprise, One-To-One Business Commerce, One-To-One Publishing), combined with Oracle, Verity Search Engine, XML, JavaScript and Java.

During this time I gave dozens of presentations/lectures (in the Netherlands as well as USA) on behalf of Getronics, but also on behalf of BroadVision and BroadBase (now Kana Software). Presenting/evangelizing is one of my passions…

March 1996 – June 1998 IQUIP Diemen
Project manager/Startup Manager/Analyst
At IQUIP (100% daughter of Cap Gemini) I was immediately assigned on the Internet path. During this period I fulfilled three roles:
1.
Project manager Internet (March 1996 – December 1996). I was in charge (and did hands-on development) of the realization and implementation of an Internet and Intranet site of De Amersfoortse (large Dutch insurance company). This site was completely built in object technology (Smalltalk and Gemstone object database) and was based on a concept I invented: called the WWWFactory (a large set of reusable object-based Internet components). The project team was manned by 7 engineers, design matters were performed by Ogilvy & Mather (under my supervision). In December 1996 I received the IQUIP/Award ’96-’97 for this project.
2.
Start-up Manager Internet (January 1997 – May 1997). IQUIP’s Internet position was weak and therefore the CEO decided to bundle all Internet-activities in one ‘club’, called Internet Application Services. I was asked to play the role as ‘Start-up Manager’, what meant that I had to build the unit up from the ground knowing that senior management would take over as soon as business came in on a regular basis. I had written a plan for such a unit in 1996 (which I gave to the CEO) and that was the reason why I got this opportunity. Senior management took over in May 1997 since I managed to generate regular revenues from the first month on.
3.
Internet Analyst (June 1997 – June 1998).
During this period I worked as Internet Analyst for IP/ViNT (institute that explored new technology) doing research on present and future possibilities of Internet technology in the broadest sense. I wrote articles, columns and (part of) a book, gave presentations to Boards of Management (in the Dutch Fortune 100), decision makers, marketing specialists and so on, about the strategic but mainly practical application of Internet technology. I made it my strengths to separate the rubbish from the practical usefulness. I visited many conferences during that year, mainly in the USA.

At IQUIP I was also active teaching Object Technology to fellow co-workers and gave many internal Internet presentations to update the mainstream of IQUIP employees.

June 1993 – February 1996 Veronica Blad Hilversum
Free-lance developer
At Veronica (the – those days – largest Dutch broadcasting organization) I designed and developed several projects (all one-man projects):
1.
Completely automated access control based on CardKey hardware in all Veronica buildings in Hilversum. The whole system was manageable on a Macintosh. The system was developed in C++ (Macintosh Programmers Workshop).
2.
I designed and developed a video-database in FileMaker Pro (Macintosh) for the registration of (archived) video material (broadcasts and location takes). I also deployed this system at the NMO (Dutch Muslim Broadcasting organization).
3.
Automated the complete (traditional) mail correspondence system using C++ and Oracle. I designed and developed this system that generated automatic replies on letters received from readers, subscribers and potential subscribers. The system communicated with a very old mainframe (where it got its subscribers data from).

January 1990 – May 1993 B+E Software GmbH Hilden, Duitsland
Pinball Wizard (that is what my business card actually said...)
In this period I worked at this German company (so I was living in Germany during this time) as developer, and later as project manager. This company developed (and sold) RagTime – a kind of MSOffice for Macintosh. I developed several modules for RagTime using C++ on Macintosh.
