December 2006 – current Head of HR Europe /Interim HR
For the European organization, I was responsible to develop and implement the HR strategy, policies and instruments. HR business partner for Management Board , Country Management teams and provide advice and support to Supervisory Board in decisions related to remuneration and HR practices. Responsibility included:
- Management responsibility for HR staff at Corporate Center and HR Managers for East and Central Europe, Nordic countries, Spain, France and the Benelux.
- Developing and implementing pan European remuneration policy, including job evaluation (Hay), job benchmarking, salary grade structure, merit increase process, long term and short term incentive programs, pensions and insurances.
- Developing and role out Career and Performance management process, including Succession Planning.
- Supporting the merger between Unibail and Rodamco. Project Management role in the integration office representing the Rodamco organization.
- Defining and role out merger implementation plan.
- Managing the relationship between the Works Council and Management Board during the merger and negotiating a mobility plan. Right-sizing the organization after the merger.
As from December 2007 I have been involved in several projects as an independent consultant; e.g. projects related to harmonizing policies and benefits, employee issues and performance evaluation.

Penske Logistics – GE European Equipment Services
April 2000 – December 2006 Director Human Resources Europe
For the European organization, I was responsible for all aspects of Human Resources and Environment, Health and Safety. Core responsibilities and major results were:
- Member of European Management Team; Operational and strategic HR responsibility (incl. Health & Safety) and provide input to the direction and strategy of the company.
- Coordination/coaching of ‘change management’ processes.
- Restructuring and re-designing the business in various European countries. Right sized the business from 1500 to 800 associates, closed 9 locations and opened 3 customer locations.
- Building up a professional HR Team and HR Support Organization (9 Empl.).
- Building up constructive relationship with Works Councils and Unions (negotiated social plans, HR policies and health & safety issues).
- Developing and implementing European HR strategy and new policies in Compensation & Benefits: appraisal system, employee manual, bonus and sales commission plan, new job classification system (Hay and Fuwa), salary structure, pension and insurances, Reward & Recognition.
- Developing and implementing management development and training programs in Europe: Leadership development program, trainee program contract managers, succession planning and assessment centers.
- Supporting growth of the business by taking care of a pan-European network for Payroll, Tax and Legal advice to support employment and C&B issues of workforce in various European countries.
- Recruiting and selection of qualified candidates for customer start ups and for (senior) management positions, developing a recruitment strategy.
- Taking care of expats and short/long term assignments.

February 1999 – April 2000 Manager, Human Resources – Benelux, Germany
As part of the Management Team, I was responsible for:
- The Human Resources function of the Dutch, Belgium and German offices (750 employees).
- Advising and guiding managers with issues concerning employee conduct, job performance, or other employee relations issues, including terminations.
- Facilitating organizational design and change management processes.
- Drafting and implementing all procedures concerning Environment, Health, Safety and Security.
- Consulting with managers to determine training needs and developing training programs.
- Developing and coordination of performance assessment and compensation and incentive programs.
- Proposing and implementing changes to and development of HR policies/practices.

Compaq Computer Corporation - Houston, USA
May 1996 – February 1999 Manager, Human Resources – Corporate IT Group
For the Corporate Information Management group, I was responsible for:
- Providing counsel and direction to senior management in all personnel matters in various locations in Texas, Colorado and New England.
- Developing partnership with executive management (CIO and direct reports to CIO).
- Supporting the integration between the Digital, Compaq and Tandem organizations. Developing headcount restructuring plans and communication to displaced employees.
- Communicating and coordinating compensation practices, training & development programs and headcount management to the Information Management groups in other Geo.’s.
- Training & Development: determining the training and development needs, identifying the types of training programs and evaluating training effectiveness.
- Implementing and customizing Corporate Compensation & Benefits programs, like; the design and determination of positions and grades, Management Incentive Programs, “hot-skills” reward systems and Reward & Recognition.

Compaq Distribution Center Europe, Gorinchem (The Netherlands) – new facility start-up
May 1992 – August 1996 Human Resources Specialist
As a Human Resources Specialist, I was responsible for:
- Providing HR support in the form of selection process and hiring, advice and counsel on disciplinary or termination proceedings involving employees, training & development, performance reviews and compensation programs.
- The development and implementation of all HR processes and policies in line with the Corporate guidelines. Designed and developed the employee manual.
- Assisting in the development of the Compensation & Benefits structure according to Compaq’s pay philosophy like; retirement plan for local and international hires, compliance with the Collective Bargain agreement and variable pay. Communication of compensation and pay practices to current and prospective employees.
- The coordination of international assignments and work permits.
