Ridgeway Systems & Software. Ridgeway is a startup company providing VoIP and multimedia networking infrastructure, specializing in NAT/Firewall traversal techniques.

Started as the project manager, becoming the programme manager and then Engineering Manager. Responsible for growing and maintaining the engineering department. Originally responsible for 20 engineers this number rose to over 50 before redundancies cut this back.
Responsible for budgets, career planning and appraisals, scheduling, monitoring and customer bids.
Responsible for delivery of 5 Major product releases and 10 minor releases, none of which were delivered more than 6 months behind schedule.
Projects involve C++, COM, ATL, portable code, Multi-threaded RealTime, Web, SNMP and MMC management on Windows, Unix (linux, BSD) and Embedded (VXWorks).
Represent Ridgeway in the International Multimedia Telecommunication Consortium (IMTC) as chair of the IP Security Activity Group, promoting interop between multiple vendor implementations of security standards. Provide security consultancy ¡V Firewalls, Encryption, Authentication, Message Integrity
Responsible for bringing good practices and new methodologies to the group ¡V Extreme Programming, Design patterns, Smoke Tests, problem reporting system and goal setting.
Provided interface to Sales, Marketing, Operations (System Test) and Support. Worked with companies like Sprint, WireOne, RADVision, Polycom, Radianz, Siemans.
Attended IMTC SuperOp events in Europe and the U.S. Worked with many vendors to improve products and test implementations to recognised standards ¡V ITU, ETSI, CITT.

1998

RedBox Technologies Ltd. Project Manager. RedBox is a 50 person company specialising in NT development of Active networking software.

Project manager of Catwalk product, 20 developers working on NT, C++, COM software to provide content distribution platform.
Responsible for bring industry standard rapid development techniques to relatively new and inexperienced company. Worked with QA group and VP of engineering to deliver kernel, SDK and GUI software.



1989-1998

Digital Equipment Co. Ltd. (DEC) Principal Software Engineer, Internetworking Products Engineering Group, Reading, UK. The Internetworking Group is part of DEC's corporate engineering division. The group produces a range of Network Bridge/Router products.

1994-1997 (Project Management)

Program manager for Corporate Web Gateway product - Planned to incorporate at least 2 engineering groups and over 70 engineers. Still in Alternatives and Feasibility stage at the moment.
Project manager for $50M DEC Network Integration Server (DECNIS) project. Responsible for timely release of 4 major releases and over 30 point releases. Product includes hardware, embedded software, operating system, drivers, routing code, network management, host configuration software and support tools. Responsibilities also included manufacturing interface, remote development in Ireland and the U.S, technical documentation, customer support, sales, product management interface and system test.
Project manager for clearVISN DECNIS Configurator project to deliver Visual C++/MFC GUI for DECNIS configuration.
Project manager and developer for MPC-III hardware development - upgraded version of central processor card for DECNIS product.
Project manager for W641 HSSI DECNIS line-card, including all stages of hardware manufacture.
In spare time developed PPP PAP, Link Monitoring and SDU size negotiation. IPX performance enhancements. MPC-III FO16/32 Flash code and DECNIS events monitor with GUI.

1989-1994 (Mainline engineering)

Development and maintenance of routing code - Integrated ISIS (DECnet/OSI and IP) and IPX. Became the IPX consultant for the company providing support both here and in the U.S. Went to the Novell labs in Utah in 1995 and obtained Novell certification for Digital¡¦s IPX implementation.
Developed and patented IP fast-path filtering implementation.
Development of LAN packet generator for IP, DECnet and OSI
Development of Token Ring line-card simulator for testing embedded line-card software on RISC based architecture. R3000, X-RAY development.
Gave Technical presentations on DECNIS, most notably at the DEC User Society (DECUS) conferences in Las Vegas USA.
Development and maintenance of synchronous network device drivers. Devices were DECNIS network cards:- W618 - 8 x 128bbs V.35, RS422 and V.24. W622 - 2 x 2M V.35, RS422 and X.21 BIS.
Development and maintenance of proprietary driver, providing a font-end interface to all DEC Network Integration Server (DECNIS) network cards.
Development and maintenance of X.25 and DEC HDLC datalink protocols, including gaining NET2 and FIPS compliance for connection to European and U.S PSDNs.
Was System Manager for development VAX cluster.
Development and maintenance of problem reporting database, VAX based distributed application using RDB database core.

1986-1988
